Training

GPs in Training

Our practice is approved to train fully qualified doctors who wish to specialise in general practice. Our GP registrar will have had 2-4 years of experience as a qualified hospital doctor working in various specialities. They consult patients on their own, under the mentorship of our trainers, Dr Julia Hempenstall, Dr Hannah Graystone, and Dr Anna Woodman. Occasionally we ask permission to video a consultation. You will always be asked in advance and are given the option not to take part, and this will not affect your care in any way. No recording will be taken without your consent and the camera will be switched off on request. These videos are used only for educational purposes with the doctor doing the consultation and are destroyed after use.

Medical Students

Medical students are sometimes attached to the practice as part of their training. They vary between Year 4 and Year 5 Medical Students and are always under the supervision of Dr Julia Hempenstall, Dr Hannah Graystone, and Dr Anna Woodman. If you do not wish a student to be present during your consultation, please inform the receptionist.

Care Quality Commission

The Old School Surgery is currently rated ‘GOOD’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). You can find out more about our rating and the quality of our health and care services, and the report on our CQC page.

GP Extended Hours

Improved Access

You can now access additional Primary Care Services in the evening and at weekends.

What is Improved Access?

Improved Access is a Wiltshire-wide initiative where local practices are working together to offer increased availability of services and appointments in the evenings and the weekends. This collaboration by practices will ensure all patients in Wiltshire have this option, but this might mean you will be offered an appointments at another practice.

Appointment Information

These appointments are available 18:30 - 20:00 Monday - Friday, Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. Appointment types will vary - some being face-to-face, some on the phone - and there will be a mixture of bookable and same-day appointments available across the week. We will be offering appointments with GPs as well as with other healthcare professionals, such as a Practice Nurse of Health Care Assistant. We are keen to balance the importance of continuity of care with the convenient access for patients, while ensuring that the service is safe.

How to Book

To book such an appointment, contact your local Surgery during normal opening times. A receptionist will explain the process, and ensure the booking is appropriate. You will need to give consent to use this service.
